What is the vision for Physical Education?

At Minworth, our vision is to ensure that PE is accessible and enjoyable for all children, no matter their ability or background. Through a whole school approach the children are appropriately challenged, enthused and are able to self and peer assess their progress. Children will be able to see development in their fundamental movement skills; including agility, balance and co-ordination.  We want children to be active in all aspects of their life and see not only the physical benefits of PE but the social and emotional ones too.  Within PE, children will embed the key areas of our Minworth Jigsaw showing pride and respect, through our great sportsmanship, develop our determination and resilience in face of a challenge and to most importantly have fun whilst doing so.

Children will have ample opportunities to showcase their skills in both inter-school and intra-school competitions. We would love for most, if not all, children to represent Minworth, or their house, at a sporting event by the time they leave us in Year 6.

How do we ensure it?

We offer 2 hours of high quality PE weekly and allow children to develop and apply their fundamental movement skills to a range of sporting activities. We ensure that pupils of all abilities and backgrounds are appropriately supported and challenged to the very best of their ability. Our PE lessons are taught by our sports coaches, Miss Lal and Mr Jones, or the class teacher who is supported by the sports coaches. Having additional adults within PE lessons allows us to follow a similar approach to our core subjects, whereby children are supported or challenged further as these needs arise in the lesson.

We also invite children to embrace PE opportunities through our annual Health Week. Every summer we connect with local sporting clubs and coaches to provide children with new experiences to transfer their PE skills to and invite them to try something new providing every child with the opportunity to find enjoyment in PE.
