History
What is the vision for History?
We deliver a broad and engaging history curriculum which will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.
We will teach children the skills to be a good historian; how to research and gather information, develop their skills of enquiry and analysis as well as starting to question information gathered and its reliability.
Children are taught through carefully mapped out sequences of historical topics which revisit and develop as children grow; enabling them to build upon prior historical knowledge, remember key historical events and individuals, as well as embed a chronological knowledge through to the present day.
How do we ensure it?
Throughout their topics, children will have access to a range of historical sources as well as trips to enable our children to become inquisitive historians. Our curriculum is rich in locality and diversity, teaching the children to understand the importance of their local heritage and that of prior generations. As the children grow, we challenge them to investigate themes of political history such as that of World War 2, Windrush and Britain post 1948.
When our children leave primary education, they will have gained the skills to enquire, question and to challenge the ideas of the past and how that builds into their future.
