Modern Foreign Languages
What is the vision for Modern Foreign Languages?
At Minworth, we understand the valuable educational, social and cultural experience which learning a modern foreign language provides. Our vision is to develop the excitement of learning a new language, and the confidence and competence of each child in French. We want children to be passionate, curious and confident about their own foreign language learning abilities when they finish the primary school phase of their education.
How do we ensure it?
We help children across Key Stage 2 (years 3, 4, 5 and 6) develop and demonstrate substantial progress in the five key language skills necessary for learning French; speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar. We ensure that pupils of all abilities develop solid foundations in these skills, thus properly preparing them for the next stage of their language learning journey. We also strengthen children’s sense of identity through learning about the culture in other countries and comparing it with their own. This helps raise awareness of the multi-lingual, multi-cultural world they are a part of.
